Suprema devices support Wiegand Output after user authentication, allowing integration with third-party access control modules (ACMs). There are two primary modes of operation when configuring Wiegand Output:
Two Output Modes
Option 1> Wiegand Output After Successful User Authentication (Normal Mode)
In this mode, the device performs full authentication using enrolled user credentials (e.g., card, fingerprint, face, etc.). Only after successful matching does the device send user data through the Wiegand interface.
- The output value can be configured as either the User ID or the first registered card value of the authenticated user.
- This mode is typically used when Suprema devices control access independently or in coordination with a third-party ACM that accepts verified credentials only.
Option 2> Wiegand Bypass (Raw Card Forwarding)
Wiegand Bypass allows the device to bypass user authentication and directly forward the card data to a third-party ACM.
- This is used when card matching and access decisions are handled entirely by the third-party ACM.
- The Suprema device acts as a card reader only and does not perform any local verification.
Configuration Steps
To configure Weigand Output properly, follow the steps below:
- Set Card Type and Format
- In BioStar 2, go to:
- Device > [Your Device] > Authentication > Card Type
- For CSN cards, change the format from Normal to Wiegand.
- Configure the Wiegand format and byte order to match the requirements of your third-party system.
- IMPORTANT: If CSN cards are already enrolled before switching to Wiegand format, authentication may fail. Always set the correct card format before enrolling cards for Wiegand Output use.
- For Wiegand-type cards (e.g., HID Prox or iCLASS), make sure:
- The card format is compatible with your Wiegand Output settings.
- In BioStar 2, go to:
- Enable Wiegand Output and Select Mode
- Navigate to:
- Device > [Your Device] > Advanced > Wiegand
- Set the Wiegand interface to Output.
- Choose between:
- Normal - for authentication-based Wiegand Output
- Bypass - to forward raw card data without authentication
- If you select Normal, you also need to specify what to send:
- User ID - sends the user ID of the authenticated user
- Card ID - sends the first enrolled card value of the user
- For users with multiple cards, BioStar 2 will use the first card listed in the user's detail page.
- Navigate to:
Summary
Mode | Authentication Required | Output Value | Use Case |
Normal | YES | User ID / Card ID | Suprema-based or hybrid control |
Bypass | NO | Raw Card Data | Third-party ACM control only |
If Wiegand Output is part of your integration scenario, make sure the card type settings, format alignment, and output mode are correctly configured to ensure reliable performance.
